North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) is the nation’s first public residential high school focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Their goal is to challenge and inspire talented students from across North Carolina through a residential campus, extensive online offerings, and summer STEM enrichment programs. As a public high school, there is no cost to attend NCSSM as either residential or online students.

NCSSM admits a widely diverse population of talented students from across all 13 of the state's congressional districts. Students apply as sophomores for their junior and senior years. Typically, students choose to attend NCSSM because they seek greater academic challenges in an environment where their fellow students are similarly motivated and intellectually curious. Eligible MICS students that are admitted may complete advanced coursework online.

Admissions criteria include above-average grades, enrollment in accelerated and challenging classes, leadership experiences, an interest in STEM topics as shown by activities, strong evaluations from teachers and guidance counselors, and SAT and math test scores. Join us for our NCSSM Information Session for 9th and 10th grade students and parents on Wednesday, October 7 at 2:45 PM.
