Visual Arts at MICS

Visual Arts programs provide a far-reaching and lasting impact on student success. Students in Visual Arts classes enjoy increased math scores, language acquisition, social skills, inventiveness and decision making skills. Artists learn about Principles of Design and Elements of Art which are the foundation of all artistic endeavors. Students learn how to use a variety of media in traditional and innovative ways to create art that enriches the spirit and inspires the soul. Artists learn about the techniques and processes involved in creating various types of 2D and 3D art pieces while utilizing historical and modern events as inspiration for their art. Visual Art classes teach students to look at the world through an artistic lens that allows students to express their ideas in ways that mere words can not. As the saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words”.

Elementary Visual Art

The Elementary School Visual Arts Program introduces students to the mediums, styles, history, and elements of art. Students will begin their journey as young artists working on their basic art skills. As students progress through the program, projects will become more elaborate to push them further into their journey. All students in the program learn of the elements and principles of art, and as they get older art history is added on as well. Incorporating these artistic definitions and art history into lessons creates more knowledgeable and well rounded artists. The goal of the elementary art programs is to instill confidence and creative problem solving skills into our students, a lesson that can benefit them in middle school, high school, and life beyond!

Middle School Visual Art

The Middle School Visual Arts Program empowers students to discover media and practice skills in creative and newly emerging ways. Visual Arts encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and self-expression by engaging the students in historical and modern art genres and focuses the student expression with challenging projects using multiple forms of artistic media.  Artists successfully completing Middle School level Visual Arts classes emerge with a new sense of confidence and community with other artists not only in our school but also worldwide.
